ENIC is the acronym for European Network of Information Centres (for academic recognition and mobility). ENIC was created by UNESCO and the Council of Europe. This network compiles the information from each country on the recognition of foreign qualifications, facilities for mobility including grants and loans, etc.
NARIC is the acronym for National Academic Recognition Information Centres. It is a European Union initiative which is participated by countries of the European Economic Area, among others, and forms part of the ERASMUS program of the European Commission to promote student and lecturer mobility.
Each national NARIC node is designated by the corresponding Ministry and its status varies according to country, depending for example on the type of independence that the higher education institutions have in relation to the admission of non-national students.
The ENIC-NARIC project is an initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. Its principal activity is to develop a tool that allows both NARIC and ENIC to develop their activities in the most efficient way possible.
This will allow them to provide organisations and individuals with the most up to date information possible on issues related to both academic and professional mobility, and about the procedures for recognising foreign qualifications.
