What is the European Diploma Supplement (EDS)?

The European Diploma Supplement (EDS) is the document that validates your academic qualifications and experience in the European Community.

It consists of an annex to the university qualification which describes the subjects taken, the languages the courses were given in, the credits awarded, the competencies acquired, the academic results and the professional qualification of the graduate, master or doctorate, with the person’s name and surname(s), and is a reliable accreditation across Europe.

According to the model drafted by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES (European Centre for Higher Education) it must contain the following information:

  • Details of the student
  • Information about the qualification
  • Information about the qualification level
  • Information about the content and the results achieved
  • Information about the function of the qualification
  • Additional information
  • Certification of the supplement
  • Information about the national higher education system

The EDS allows credits from the different universities in Europe to be recognised while also accrediting the skills acquired by the student for potential employers in any organisation in Europe.

The qualification is issued in Spanish and in another official language of the European Union determined by the university. Universities based in autonomous regions with their own co-official language may also issue it in their own language.
