Why are there three educational cycles?

Pasillos facultad

In order to consolidate the European Higher Education Area, university systems have agreed on a common structure of three cycles, which allow students, teaching staff and researchers to develop their academic and professional careers in more than 40 countries.

Everyone can therefore recognise and appreciate the essential preparation for a graduate (first cycle), the specialisation of a master (second cycle), and the researcher profile of the doctorate (third cycle), regardless of the European university in which the studies have been taken.

Each cycle always works towards obtaining an official qualification in every case, where passing one cycle gives access to the next.
