Students are taking an active part in the process that began in Bologna in order to create a European area without borders for the university community. The opinions of the international, sector and multidisciplinary associations have been fully incorporated into the Bologna Process.
Students play an active role in the process to verify the study plans drafted by ANECA, the Spanish quality evaluation and accreditation agency, through the evaluation committees and its advisory board.
The participation of students in the European university convergence process crosses the borders of the countries that comprise the EHEA. This participation moves through European, multi-disciplinary, international and sector-based associations, and its opinion is valued in the most relevant education forums.
In 2007 when the Amendment Law of the Universities Act was passed, it was agreed that there should be a university student statute and that a council of university students should be created.
The Student Statute, which is currently in its negotiation phase, is a charter of rights and obligations that shapes the University Student Council. This national council will be the most senior entity for institutional participation by university students through their representatives and associations.
Student representatives may also participate in the Bologna sponsors group that exists in every EHEA country in order to collaborate with the institutions to disseminate information related to the European university convergence process.
University students can directly or indirectly participate in decision making in their respective institutions through their representatives in student delegations that are spokespeople in the governing boards, faculty boards, boards of teaching staff and the departments that comprise the university.
